RRBEL forays into MW class wind turbines [May 2012]

May 26, 2012 8:36 am

RRB Energy Limited (RRBEL) has developed a state-of-the-art 1.8 MW wind electric generator (WEG) using in-house R&D expertise and with the help from world class consultants. The new 1.8MW WEG (PS-1800kW WEG) has received C-design assessment certificates from Germanischer Lloyd (GL), Germany for two hub heights viz. 80m and 100m.
Sarvesh Kumar, Deputy Managing Director, RRBEL said, “RRBEL’s PS-1800kW WEG offers all the features that are desirable in a modern wind turbine. In India, there is a huge potential and market demand for WEGs with the rating of 1.5MW to 2.0MW. In that sense, RRBEL’s latest 1.8MW WEG will be ideal here. RRBEL’s PS-1,800kW WEG is nothing short of an excellent wind turbine ideally suitable for India and built for Indian climatic and grid conditions”.
The first RRBEL prototype PS-1800kW WEG has been commissioned some time back in Tamil Nadu. By launching the 1.8 MW wind turbine, RRBEL enters the next generation in technology with machines manufactured specifically for the Indian market. The induction of the 1.8 MW wind turbine expansion is expected to take the company’s wind electric generator production capacity to about 700 MW a year from the present 300 MW.
The company has plans to commission a manufacturing facility at Poonamallee, Chennai for the serial production of the PS-1800kW WEG.
