In an interaction with Karan Rawat, Sunil Joshi, Vice-President, Sandvik Coromant India speaks about the company’s journey and their futuristic solution.
Could you give us a brief overview of your business activities in India and what market opportunities do you see here?
Sandvik Coromant is a part of global industrial engineering group Sandvik. Sandvik Coromant is at the forefront of manufacturing tools, machining solutions and knowledge that drive industry standards and innovations demanded by the metalworking industry and ready for the next industrial era. Educational support, extensive R&D investment and strong customer partnerships ensure the development of machining technologies that change, lead and drive the future of manufacturing. Sandvik Coromant owns over 3100 patents worldwide, employs over 7,900 staff, and is represented in 150 countries. There are huge market opportunities in India as all the segments are booming and we see good opportunities.
How competitive is the Indian market?
The Indian market has been very competitive when it comes to manufacturing and we have many OEMs who are here since many years with whom we have been working jointly. They are extremely competitive globally. Today we can say that many SME’s are giving a tough time to established global suppliers.
How beneficial is Industry 4.0 going to be?
Today the manufacturing industry is growing rapidly. The entire manufacturing value chain from design to outbound logistic is working in silos. There is a huge opportunity to integrate the entire manufacturing value chain. We have the CoroPlus offer of connected solutions that connects systems and processes in production, enabling customers to make use of data and turn it into
a competitive advantage. Industry 4.0 would help manufacturers and customers to be more effective that will increase productivity as well as profitability.
Please discuss the status of metal cutting industry in India.
India has been a very mature industry. We have seen many entrepreneurs expanding their activities and creating great value for customers and suppliers. We have seen many players operating now in India and the market has been different depending on which segment you operate (premium, mid, etc…). Going ahead, customer needs and demands are changing and there is a growing need of digitisation. We are fortunate to be ready with our platform of CoroPlus solutions which can help customers to further optimise their production.
How is IoT driving the machine tools industry?
When we talk of IoT, it is about a connected environment and it is not possible for anyone to work independently in this. We are teaming up with our machine tool partners in this exciting journey and we see that they are also moving very fast on this. We are working jointly with our machine tool partners to adopt our
CoroPlus digital solutions on their machines. They are one of our important partners in this new journey.
