Demand for green hydrogen will be another area for tremendous growth.

Please walk us through journey of MVS Engineering.

MVS Engineering was founded in 1977 with a desire for offering eco-friendly on-site gas generation systems. Our journey started with Nitrogen gas generation systems which have now largely replaced the older fuel based inert gas generators which were expensive and not environmentally friendly. When a customer operates an MVS onsite gas generator for production of Nitrogen, Hydrogen or Oxygen by themselves, they are avoiding the trucking of cylinders and thereby doing their bit in helping the environment, while also saving money as onsite gas generation is cost effective compared to gas delivered in cylinders.

Over the past 44 years, we have grown to be India’s largest indigenous onsite gas generator manufacturer, while retaining our global partnerships to offer the best and latest technologies to customers in India. We launched our medical oxygen generators almost a decade back and have more than 200 satisfied customers already across the country. In fact, many of our customers who installed our onsite PSA Medical oxygen generators before the pandemic were really appreciating that they never suffered due to lack of oxygen which was witnessed in the second wave.

Company’s manufacturing activities and product systems.

We manufacture Nitrogen and Oxygen gas generators based on European and American collaborations. We partner with leading manufacturers of US and Europe for offering the latest hydrogen and green hydrogen generators to customers in India. We also partner with leading US and Dutch manufacturers for offering liquid nitrogen and liquid helium systems in India.

Technology solutions in setting up onsite systems to meet uninterrupted supply?

Having robust technology that has been proven across the globe is very important for MVS to offer the latest and the best to our customers. Having cutting edge technology in the field of industrial gases is very important as the efficiency of our machines is improving constantly. Of course, while the technology is from our international partners, it is extremely important to understand the Indian climatic and operating conditions and make sure our machines are designed to operate in extremely harsh conditions. We maintain an open line of technical collaboration with our partners so that they take our feedback and incorporate necessary improvements in their future developments and iterations of technology. High availability of our machines is an important aspect of our machines and we work very closely with our customers to ensure that they maintain their machines as per our recommendations and we take continuous feedback on understanding the improvements that customers want us to offer in our systems.

Safety regulations support required for onsite creation of oxygen plants?

Indian pharmacopeia allows for Oxygen from a PSA plant to offer 90 to 96 percent purity. If the purity of oxygen goes below 90 percent, then the oxygen should ideally be switched over to the backup supply. MVS Engineering offers an automatic switching system for this and also offers online purity measurement which is continuously monitoring oxygen purity and alerts the users in case of purity drop due to excess consumption or due to any inadvertent malfunction of a component. Oxygen is a flammable gas and adequate safety measures are advised to our customers to ensure that any risk of fires etc are avoided and hazards identified by our engineers when they visit a site for machine startup.

What is so unique about industrial air and gas systems making MVS Engineering a global supplier?

MVS Engineering takes pride in offering latest technology but at attractive prices. This is largely due to our efficient supply chain, lean manufacturing practices and aggressive quality controls. We manufacture as per international standards. Our machines are exported to over 50 countries globally and our ability to offer machines to quality conscious customers with very aggressive lead times at competitive prices is a key differentiator for us when customers compare us to companies like Oxymat, Inmatec, OnSite Gas etc., from Europe and US.

Key challenges the company faced to get factory operated

We initially faced issues relating to lockdowns and to justify allowing our factories to operate. Once we were able to get our factories started up, almost every day we were finding supply chain issues as our vendors were having difficulty in operating their factories and warehouses. However, with support from authorities and several vendors going out of their way to help us, we were largely able to mitigate supply chain issues within 45-60 days of the second wave. We faced massive issues with import of zeolite molecular sieves (a key raw material of PSA Oxygen generators) that is imported from Europe and USA. Indian government, through various agencies also blocked supplies for their own initiatives and this put further pressure on our ability to purchase the raw material from our vendors.

Managing business in pandemic and number of oxygen generators installed in the country?

Our workforce and engineers and back office admin staff, all are to be commended on their commitment and understanding of the importance of our machines for the nation. Our engineers were visiting Covid facilities as that is where our machines were being installed and they put their work ahead of their own health and families. They are the true warriors. Our factory workers and office staff all ensured that they were helping out in every way possible and going above and beyond their job responsibilities. We now have over 200 PSA Medical Oxygen generators installed in the country and take pride that majority of these are in continuous operation at the customer locations in large cities and also remote locations.

Manufacturing in India, potential and demand for green hydrogen in future?

With the growing market for capital equipment and move of manufacturing to India is creating a large demand for our machines across all 3 gases and we look for this trend to continue well into this decade. Demand for green hydrogen is just getting started and will be another area for tremendous growth in the future for our company.

In terms of manufacturing what growth and market opportunities do you expect?

We experienced nearly 100 percent growth Y-o-Y this year. While it is impossible for this kind of growth to be sustained, we are very hopeful that we will see double digit growth for the foreseeable future. Medical Oxygen generators, green hydrogen and high purity nitrogen generators for electronics industry will be areas of growth for our company.
