Sulzer celebrates 150 years of engineering excellence in Germany

October 27, 2022 2:36 pm

Sulzer Pumpen (Deutschland) GmbH celebrated its 150th anniversary at its Bruchsal pump factory. The event, which gathered local dignitaries and colleagues, highlighted the company’s rich history as well as its future goals.

The facility in Bruchsal is world-renowned for the design and manufacture of pumps used in industrial applications worldwide. Furthermore, its production capabilities are utilized by Sulzer’s global network of service centers, to ensure OEM parts are delivered quickly to customers. Pumps manufactured at the facility have been a popular choice in the energy industry for decades, with models such as the GSG also being adopted for COcapture and storage. As well as reducing the environmental impact of customer processes, the recent installation of a photovoltaic plant at the site is expected to save up to 176 tonnes of CO2 emissions and generate 300’000 kWh of renewable electricity annually.

David Pistor, Managing Director at Sulzer Pumpen GmbH, kicked off proceedings with a lively presentation on the heritage of the company. Looking to the future as well, he explored on-going energy saving projects at the facility and for customers across industries.

The Mayoress of Bruchsal, Cornelia Petzold-Schick, then gave a speech, celebrating the incredible milestone achieved by the Sulzer team in Germany. Sulzer can trace its roots in Bruchsal back to 1952, when Rudolf Ernst Weise first opened the pump manufacturing facility in the city.

Guests of honor at the event included Mr. Andreas Weise, descendant of the founder family, and Mr. Hubert Groll, founder of the German Service Organization – both warmly welcomed by attendees. Two senior management representatives of the local energy provider, EWB, also joined in the event. Armin Baumgärtner and Sebastian Heilemann delivered a presentation on how they collaborate with Sulzer and other companies of the region to support key energy infrastructure.

Visitors were also treated to a guided tour of the state-of-the-art pump manufacturing facility. Sulzer experts highlighted advanced manufacturing technologies to attendees, who got a chance to see pumps being assembled on the production line.

David Pistor concluded: “A big thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this incredible milestone. I’d like to extend my gratitude to the Mayoress for visiting us on the day too. Since 1872, Sulzer has been delivering engineering innovations in Germany, and we will be continuing this long into the future. I’m grateful to our customers, colleagues and the local community for contributing to this amazing achievement.”
