OEM Update

Sitem buys two more Smartlines for its production sites in Italy

September 11, 2021 4:50 pm

Italy-based magnetic lamination manufacturer orders third and fourth identical high-speed press – now including Digital Suite solutions.

In 2019, the Italian family-owned company Sitem S. p. A. ordered two Smartline high-speed presses from Schuler for the efficient manufacture of electric motor laminations. This investment has obviously paid off.  The customer has now bought another two identical machines for its production sites in Italy.

There is only one difference.  The new SA315S type presses now also feature solutions from Schuler’s “Digital Suite” for production, process and condition monitoring. Operators can check, for example, press forces and production parameters on their desktop PC, smartphone or any other mobile device.

However, Sitem is also convinced by the machines’ mechanical properties: They can process coil gauges of just 0.2 millimetres, thus improving the efficiency of the electric motors. Furthermore, Schuler’s high-speed press offers an output of up to 400 strokes per minute, while die life is extended thanks to the depth penetration control and slide guidance without play.

Sitem produces a wide range of magnetic laminations for electric motors and generators with powers ranging from 0.09 to 30 kilowatts, according to the customer’s drawing or catalogue. Among others, the drives are built into forklifts, pumps, automotive applications, pressure washers or air conditioning compressors. The company was established in 1974 in the Cannaiola di Trevi area, which is still the group’s legal and administrative headquarters.

With Maria Landa Scarca Bartoloni taking over the management, Sitem took up a significant position at national and international level as a manufacturer of magnetic laminations for any application. In 1995 her son, Giovanni Bartoloni, was appointed as CEO. With several acquisitions, he expanded the company and its competences and raised the number of employees from 100 to now 800. His son, Marco Bartoloni, entered in 2010 and still represents the third generation of the family.
