Our ongoing experience with the implementation of Industry 4.0 has taught us that successful implementation of IIoT requires an in-depth understanding of the business and a willingness to change that has to be top down.
Benefits of IIoT are being realised
The manufacturing industry will soon become IIoT integrated. This is already gaining prevalence in the Indian market and is catching up. The awareness of the benefits of IIoT are being realised. The ability to maintain and continuously improve performance using real-time inputs and information in a changing and uncertain environment will become a key for successful sustainable manufacturing organisations. T K Ramesh, CEO, Micromatic Machine Tools Pvt Ltd, informs, “Our ongoing experience with the implementation of Industry 4.0 has taught us that successful implementation of IIoT requires an in-depth understanding of the business and a willingness to change that has to be top down. It is not merely a matter of connecting machines via the Internet. There is the need for a paradigm shift in thinking and thought out step-by-step implementation.”
IIoT adoption drivers
Industries that are already comfortable working with IT enabled manufacturing like computerised hardware manufacturing, mobile phone manufacturing and of course the automotive manufacturing with large volumes will drive IIoT in the coming years. Typically, IIoT has significant value in an eco-system that needs to be connected and real-time decision making is critical.
Companies, who are already comfortable with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), will be looking to take up manufacturing execution systems (MES) aggressively.
MES typically means connecting the manufacturing area like machine shop, assembly shop to the hard-core ERP of the company.
Micromatic’s preparedness in the area of IIoT
AmiT, a principal company of Ace Micromatic Group, a pioneer in this field of MES and has been working exclusively in the discrete manufacturing space with both software and hardware solutions for the last 10 years. Ramesh informs, “We have over a thousand machines connected in the corporate and SME sectors.”
One of the main product offered being TPM Trak, India’s leading software/hardware machine monitoring products (IoT and Industry 4.0 solutions).
This solution uses industrial Ethernet (rugged, industry standard) or wireless (ease of deployment) for connectivity between shop-floor and PCs/servers.
Another solution being MachineConnect, a product that can acquire rich, accurate production data without operator involvement, over LAN, directly from the machine control allowing access even on mobile devices.
Ramesh adds, “MachineConnect solutions are already available in all the machines manufactured from ACE and AMS. Our customers have the benefit of having both, machines that cater to their needs as well as IIoT solutions, provided by one source at a competitive price with handholding and great after service.”
