Leveraging technology to ensure quality and compliance

  There are lot of challenges the Life Sciences industry face today, which includes patents expiry, competition from generic drugs, lowering profitability, aggressive regulatory scrutiny and counterfeit products. Today, organisations are seeking solutions and methodologies that ensure desired quality, safety, reliability, profitability, cost control and production throughput.
In this regard, Rockwell Automation conducted ‘Life Sciences Symposium 2016’, which was held on 27th April, Mumbai. ‘Leveraging Technology to Ensure Quality and Compliance’ was the theme of the entire event where the main focus point was on how technology can be used to meet the needs of increased regulation and quality while reducing manufacturing costs and reducing risk in the Life Sciences industry. The sessions were attended by distinguished leaders from top Industry associations, pharma manufacturers, pharma equipment suppliers, industry consultants and industry and automation specialist among others and about 150 delegates.
The major discussions were on the following:• India pharma manufacturing: global expectations and way forward• Regulatory environment and infrastructure necessities• Role of machinery manufacturer in creating a growth story• Connecting enterprise for sustainable manufacturing• Leveraging global trends to gain competitive advantage.
The proceedings included exclusive sessions for pharma manufacturers and pharma equipment suppliers with dialogues on mutual expectations and current practices in order to comply with the regulatory requirements and deliver high quality products. During the sessions, Rockwell Automation and its Partner Network TM shared the latest trends and success stories of effective integration by leveraging automation to mitigate the risk of quality and compliance issues.
The event started with the inaugural session followed by tea and then welcome speech by Kumar Kanti Mitra, Regional Head – West, Rockwell Automation. Gopal Nair, Immediate Past Chair and Director Board; International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering; India Affiliate shared his views on the opportunities and dependencies in the Indian pharma industry. A senior member of the Indian Pharma Machinery Manufactures Association spoke about the achieving excellence in pharma manufacturing. Warford Reaney, Founding Partner and CEO, Aveta Life Sciences-USA, Inc.; Quality and Compliance Consultant discussed about global quality and compliance systems. Rockwell Automation’s Managing Director, Dilip Sawhney spoke about the company’s – ‘Connected Enterprise for Pharmaceutical Manufacturing’. Anil Kumar Kartha, Site Head Cipla- Patalganga shared his experience on achieving manufacturing excellence through plant wide integration. Dev Bakshi, Managing Director; Tapasya Engineering Works Pvt Ltd shared solutions for enabling quality by design. These sessions were followed by a panel discussion and then lunch.
Post lunch, two sessions was going on simultaneously – one session was for the end users and consultants and the other for machinery manufacturers. End users sessions included discussion on the evolution of pharmaceutical MES by Sandeep Redkar, Manager, Process Solutions, Rockwell Automation and Anand Date, Director, MESTECH. Vijay Singh, Application Center Manager of Rockwell Automation spoke about achieving compliance through line integration and virtualisation, which was followed by Sudhir Kalkar, GM Technical, ACG Pharma Tech, who spoke about smart machine for enhanced quality and compliance. Atanu Roy, Chief Information Officer of Sun Pharma pointed out change management for MES in pharma industry.
Machinery manufacturers’ session included topics like – expectations from pharma machine manufacturers to enable quality and compliance. Anand Katti, Business Development Manager – OEM, Rockwell Automation spoke about accelerating the manufacturer’s journey towards global leadership. Rajendran Menon, Product Manager – Safety Solutions, Rockwell Automation threw light on safety in pharma machines. Vishwesh Anantharaman, Global OEM Technical Consultant Leader, Rockwell Automation discussed about adapting global standards and practices and Ramchandra Rao, Director, Sumiran Industrial Automation Systems spoke about the success stories of meeting customers’ quality and compliance requirements.
