The ‘Make in India’ campaign has generated a lot of interest for India worldwide. India is not only seen as an emerging economy, but also as a strategic country to invest in the Asian region.Vineet Seth, Managing Director, South Asia & Middle East, Delcam Ltd, UK
Delcam has developed products to aid in the production of complex shapes and tooling for about 30 years. It is now one of the world’s leading suppliers of advanced CADCAM software solutions for industries such as aerospace, automotive, electrical appliance, footwear, ceramics, packaging, sign-making, jewellery, toys and sporting equipment.
In an exclusive interview with OEM Update, Vineet Seth, Managing Director, South Asia & Middle East, Delcam Ltd, UK shares his views on the changes post ‘Make in India’ and why India is the most preffered destination for global investors.
Upbeat in the SME segmentThe most important change post the ‘Make in India’ launch, is that there is an upbeat in the SME segment of the manufacturing sector. In terms of quantification, there are enough reports that detail investments to the tune of billions of dollars in the electronics, automotive, defence and transport industries – on the large and heavy industry front. These new investments are coming up in tier-1 and tier-2 cities in the country. There is also a trend now to innovate and a lot of manufacturing organisations are investing in new technology and practice to increase their competencies as well as profitability.
Make the most of ‘Make in India’The ‘Make in India’ campaign should be seen as a national pride in building brand India global perspective. Many decades back, German and Japanese manufacturing leaders realised the true potential of being thought leaders and not fast followers, which changed the perception of their products not only in their country but also globally. Today, German precision and Japanese Quality are taken for granted. Indian manufacturers have a once in a lifetime opportunity to build a perception that will stand the test of time.
Working closely with various stakeholders of the ‘Make in India’ campaign, Indian manufacturers should nurture their employees and supply chain, invest in customer centric product or service innovation, invest in technology to increase manufacturing efficiency and product, service quality – amongst others, to benefit from this movement.
Manufacturers has huge potential for growthThe ‘Make in India’ campaign has generated a lot of interest for India worldwide. India is not only seen as an emerging economy, but also as a strategic country to invest in the Asian region. With globalisation as a key, manufacturers in India have a huge potential for growth considering that as a country have India has the ability to generate both, local demand as well as, supply domestically and globally. Besides, India has the right mix of people and knowledge to drive tomorrow’s growth. This growth potential which translates to long term and a large percentage of returns is the prime reason for global investors to consider India as a preferred destination.
Believe in ‘Make in India’ initiativeThere will always be challenges to a macro economic program such as the ‘Make in India’ campaign and can only be resolved by good governance and industry voice. However, the major roadblock to ‘Make in India’ is a closed mindset and not truly believing in the initiative. One should have full faith in the campaign and put the best foot forward to raise the potential at least one step above the accepted global norms. With this goal and belief in mind, best practices and results thereof will surely follow.
Delcam’s contribution to ‘Make in India’As part of Delcam’s contribution to the ‘Make in India’ campaign, it has been speaking to customers about how industry disruptions come from least expected quarters and are introducing them to the ‘Future of Making Things’, which considers and leverages tomorrow’s technology in the design, make and control stages of a product’s life. Delcam leads this innovation from the front and are helping its customers and partners take steps towards a seamless transition of its businesses as the world around changes dynamically.
