Sanjay Kulkarni,
MD, Pilz India Pvt Ltd
As the number of connected devices grows, we can expect a growth in the adaptation IIoT globally as well as in India.

Future look for IIoT in manufacturing
IIoT is the technology of the future. With the implementation of IIoT in industry, we make machinery more intelligent by using IIoT enabled sensors and controllers, connected data and computing. This result in increased productivity, reduced operating costs and shorter downtimes along with predictive management, observes Sanjay Kulkarni, MD, Pilz India Pvt Ltd. He adds, “With data collection, decision making within the company becomes decisive which leads to better management. With all these benefits, IIot is definitely a technology of the future.”

He opines, “As the number of connected devices grows, we can expect a growth in the adaptation IIoT globally as well as in India. However, the concerns related to the IIoT are of security and data protection.”

IIoT adoption drivers
IIoT is mainly a demand for the industries which require intelligent processes and are spread over a large area, opines Kulkarni. He notes, though it finds applications everywhere like packaging, robotics etc, but sectors like automotive and process are the main industries where IIoT will find more presence.

Pilz’s preparedness in the area of IIoT
Pilz is ready for the industry of the future with products like automation system PSS 4000 and other products which have predictive maintenance. Kulkarni informs, “With our products plants and machinery becomes flexible, autonomous and yet self-organising. With the automation system PSS 4000 one can network multiple controllers in accordance with the multi-master principle and yet each one runs autonomously. Programming is independent from the hardware and one can decide later whether a function is to run in various controllers or just in one controller.”

Company’s safety device diagnostics system enables comprehensive diagnostic data to be retrieved simply and over distance, for use in remote maintenance for example. In this way service calls can be considerably reduced, increasing productivity significantly.

Lastly, Kulkarni claims, “Pilz has always been an active member of Industry 4.0 since the beginning. Pilz is a member of the demonstration and research platform SmartFactoryKL. We are actively involved in formulating uniform standards for Industry 4.0. The platform’s goal is to test innovative factory systems, in which the vision of Industry 4.0 becomes a reality.”
