M anufacturing companies cannot cut corners in production processes which are optimized down to the smallest detail. The focus is on the process. In order to produce a component in a specified time and quality, each part of the process must have the optimum solution.
STUDER, one of the leading names in the areas of grinding technology has come up with a solution for a series of problems.
Dalibor Doric, Dy Director Sales STUDER says, “The S122 from STUDER is a production internal cylindrical grinding machine for the production of small to medium-sized work pieces in small and large-scale production. When a company purchases this machine, it also purchases productivity. With a swing diameter of 220 mm, this production grinding machine can machine work pieces
up to 120 mm in length. The maximum grinding length is 110 mm for internal and 40 mm for external diameters.”
“Different loading systems are available for the S122, which can be precisely adapted to the machine application and the machining processes thanks to their modular design. The integrated loader stands out in terms of its favourable price. In addition, complex systems with pre- and post-process stations, automatic correction, measured value recording and evaluation can also be easily implemented on the S122”, he further adds.

“The S131, S141 and S151 represent a brand new series of internal cylindrical grinding machines and STUDER has paid a lot of attention on the ergonomics, handling and flexibility. . The ergonomic design ensures safety during machine operation and work piece inspection, as well as efficient process control”, says H Prabhakaran, Head, Research Lab.
“The automatic swivel axis has a swivelling range of – 10° to + 20° (length 1300 mm +15°).The capability of the S131, S141 and S151 to execute both internal and external grinding operations is thanks to the axis concept, a sophisticated arrangement of spindles, dressers, and a grinding spindle turret with integrated swivel axis, which allows the use of maximum four grinding spindles with up to two external grinding wheels and a universal measuring probe. A new arrangement of the dressing position and reversal of the grinding direction during external machining ensure that the S131, S141 and S151 can cover the entire diameter range in external grinding”, he further adds.
Speaking about the new features of the S141, Dalibor said, “With the S141 radius grinding machine, the machining of larger work pieces is also now possible. For the user, this means in figures: The swing diameter above table is 250 mm for the S121, 300 mm for the S131 and 400 mm for the S141. The main benefit which customers can derive from the new machines is the extended range of parts possible due to the larger size of the machine, and the new dressing concept which, thanks to the new arrangement on the B-axis (simultaneously swivelling work piece table) is not only simpler, but also offers greater thermal stability and mechanical rigidity.”
The S141 is being launched on the market as a fully developed new product. Over many months, several S141 were in use in the production areas at Fritz Studer AG and at a customer site. The production of qualitatively challenging work pieces has already been put to a hard daily stress test: the S141 has proven itself to be extremely reliable. STUDER is now advancing work on the S141, which has been successfully launched on the market, to produce its S131 and S151 machines and thus introduce an entire series.
The S121 to S151 cylindrical grinding machines use the STUDER operating system StuderWIN, while the new radius grinding machines use the StuderSIM operating system.
