In 2010, revenues of metal forming machinery manufacturing in India amounted to approximately $ 643 million. I expect the same to grow double by 2020.

Today, in India, around 55-57 per cent of the total machine tool industry requirements are being imported. (refer Table 1). It shows that there is lot of scope for Indian manufacturers to involve and get the benefit out of “Make in India” concept initiated by the government.
There is scope for investment and R&D to cater to the need of major industrial sector like automobiles, where production of small components play very important role. Present scenario is such that, without a major contribution from metal forming machine tools industry, production of these components is almost impossible.
At par with global standardSpeaking on if metal forming machine tools industry in India is at par with global standard, Subramanya K, Head – Marketing and Communications, Kabelschlepp India Pvt Ltd says, “We are at par with global standard, the fact is 75 per cent of the Indian machine tool producers are ISO certified and many machine tool manufacturers have also obtained CE Marking certification, in keeping with the requirements of the European markets.”
Opportunities and challengesIn 2010, revenues of metal forming machinery manufacturing in India amounted to approximately $ 643 million. I expect the same to grow double by 2020, anticipates Subramanya.
As the demand for auto components is expected to grow, forming industry will definitely have equal opportunities to grow.
Talking about the challenges in this sector, Subramanya says, “The big challenge would be attracting the investors and setting up new units by focussing more on R&D, continuous development of technology and resources.”
Kabelschlepp’s offeringsSpeaking about the Kabelschlepp’s offering in the metal forming machine tools segment, Subramanya says, “Ours is an Indian subsidiary supplying cable drag chains and cable carriers, telescopic covers, the components of which are imported from our principal company Tsubaki Kabelschlepp GmbH. We are currently outsourcing forming requirements.”
IMTEX 2016Kabelschlepp has been participating in IMTEX forming as well as in machine tool exhibitions from past several years and plans to promote its USP customised supply of cable drag chains and cable carriers with new variants of uniflex advanced and quicktrack or easytrack chains.
“We started manufacturing telescopic covers along with other guideway protective systems like way wipers, link apron covers and have plans to promote them in a bigger way compared to the previous years in IMTEX,” concludes Subramanya.
