Tata unit, RUAG in pact to supply components to Airbus

Tata unit TAL Manufacturing Solutions Ltd. and RUAG Aerostructures entered into partnership for manufacturing and supply of aero structural components and sub-assemblies. The two companies signed a multi-year contract with a potential value of over $ 150 million. The new work scope allows RUAG to strengthen and optimise the global supply chain to the advantage of Airbus.
As part of the contract, TAL will manufacture and supply over 550 sheet metal components, machined parts and sub-assemblies to RUAG, for Airbus’ fast moving, successful A320 programme. Going into two fuselage sections of the Airbus A320, these parts are processed from steel, aluminium and titanium and involve use of some of the most sophisticated and futuristic equipment in aerospace manufacturing.
“It (the partnership with TAL) reflects our strategy to go global in the supply chain and enables RUAG to strengthen its position as a leading first-tier supplier in Aerostructures,” Urs Breitmeier, CEO of RUAG Group said.
Rajesh Khatri, ED and CEO of TAL said, “This contract will see us investing further in our state-of-the-art aerospace infrastructure at Nagpur and will uniquely position us as a supplier to two of the world’s most advanced and successful airplane programmes, the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the Airbus A320.”
TAL Manufacturing Solutions Ltd. is the wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Motors Ltd. The company provides manufacturing solutions across wide range of industries in India and abroad. TAL’s offerings are delivered through Aerospace Business Unit at Nagpur with a focus on manufacture of precision components, assemblies and tooling for aero-structures, aero-engines and GSE. Its industrial Business Unit based at Pune with its key products as robotics and automation solutions, machine tools; tooling, material handling solutions and fluid power systems.
RUAG Aerostructures, located in Germany and Switzerland, is a global supplier and integrator of components for civil and military aerospace applications.
