“Demand for power is more than the available or generated power and hence the industries and households suffer the power paucity. It’s time to implement the methodologies for the energy savings with pursuit of power quality,” says Akinori Urakawa, President and CEO, Yaskawa India
YASKAWA has been one of the pioneers in innovation with cutting edge technological brilliance for many decades across the globe. YASKAWA’s commitment to produce the energy efficient products and reducing carbon footprint is getting stronger each year. Its technology mainly focuses on creating a greener planet. Mr Urakawa discusses about the need of energy saving and recent advancement in the field.
In India, companies have faced possible energy shortage due to shut-down of power plants. Further electricity price hikes is forcing them to step up energy saving efforts and thus cut costs. Fundamental to these efforts are energy saving and energy efficient measures related to rotating devices such as motors and generators used widely across almost all type of industries.
“Demand for power is more than the available or generated power and hence the industries and households suffer the power paucity. It’s time to implement the methodologies for the energy savings with pursuit of power quality,” believes Mr Urakawa.
Latest innovations and productsConsidering the present market requirement in India, YASKAWA introduces the new AC drive technology called Matrix which is used for low harmonic regenerative power applications. The new Matrix technology does not need capacitor in the module which makes free of maintenance, compact and increase the module life span.
The evolution of the product U1000, which provides the way to save energy in the industries, power regenerative applications such as cranes, winders, conveyors, agitators, elevators, escalators, robots, textile weaving, presses, test bench, machine tool etc. It also describes the way of power factor improvement and reducing the low harmonics such as fan and pump, HVAC, and compressor etc.
Improves system performance A Matrix converter is AC/AC converter which consists of nine bidirectional switches that are arranged in the matrix form. It converts a three phase AC power supply directly into the required voltage and frequency. U1000 product is available from 2.2kw to 450kw.
“When a motor rotates, it consumes energy. When a motor is rotated, it generates energy,” points out Mr Urakawa. “One can save energy by using regenerative energy instead of wasting it. U1000 can serve to the motor power and also regenerate to electrical network when the motor is in regenerative mode.”
Typical applications of these drives include cranes, winders, conveyors, agitators, elevators, escalators, robots, textile weaving, presses, test bench, machine tool etc.
When an AC drive converts power, the input current is distorted which results in harmonics. These harmonics can interface with other electrical devices by causing overheat or damage to power supply facilities, malfunction and noise in precision devices. U1000 will maintain the current distortion less than 5 per cent and almost unity power factor (i.e. 0.98) thus reducing the power supply capacity, improving the performance of the system and thus the overall quality of the power.
