The government PLI schemes are only helping in focusing more on our expansion plans.

Interacting with OEM Update about Carl Zeiss’s Industrial Quality Solutions (IQS) history and journey in India, Aveen Padmaprabha, Divisional Manager, Industrial Quality Solution, Carl Zeiss India (Bangalore) Pvt. Ltd., shared that company’s India journey began in 1975 in cooperation with our business partner and later established direct Sales, services offices in 1998. Our first Quality Excellence Center was established in 2008 in Bangalore. Our other milestones include inauguration of our first local manufacturing and assembly in 2012, Software R&D in Bangalore in 2016. Since then, ZEISS IQS India engaged in manufacturing CMM and exporting machines to over 20 countries across the world. In addition, we have our sales offices and Quality Excellence Centres spread all over India where customers can avail measurement services.

Business activities in terms of product portfolios and the sectors you cater

Our flagship product is Coordinate Measurement Machines, where we have the highest market share. Apart from CMMs, we are into Surface Metrology, Optical machines, X-Ray/CT machines, and we have a data connectivity platform called PiWeb. ZEISS is focussing basically on core sectors like NEV, Electronics, Additive Manufacturing, Aerospace, Medical, Plastic, General engineering, Wind energy sector. ZEISS is the only company in the metrology world that can offer solutions from Nano to Micron scales with our wide range of product portfolio.

Strategic Projects for next 5 years

For the coming era, India is going to be a big market for key sectors like electric vehicles, aerospace, electronics, medical implants which will drive ZEISS IQS India in next 5 years and falls in line with the government PLI schemes, where the government is incentivising industry players in these sectors.

Challenges faced in the past two years and strategies adopted

Some of the major challenges included inability to have face to face customer interactions, customers slowing down on their investments because of the changing market dynamics, reaching customers to address service issues. To tackle this situation, we moved to Digital mode to connect with customers, product demonstrations and even final negotiations are done digitally now. We were able to quickly launch several digital touch points like Digital Customer Portal, Webshop, and refreshed websites to cater to ever increasing customer needs. Our digital transformation ensured that our customers get the right solutions irrespective of its complexity at the right time.

EV market and measurement challenges they generally face in this new segment

Electric vehicle concept in India was first adopted by two wheeler and three wheeler segment and gradually moved on to 4 wheelers/commercial vehicle segment. If we look at EV as a platform there are 4 different components like battery technology, power train, motor technology and car body/vehicle body.

We are in a strong position to offer complete end to end solutions for all these four segments. Apart from this, we also offer measurement services when they are in the development process in each of the above-mentioned segments.

Other strategic projects for IQS ZEISS in India

We are focussing more on local manufacturing and want to expand our local footprint beyond automotive, through enhancing technical competence of the team and making ourselves future ready.

Expansion plans for IQS ZEISS in India

India is one of our strategic markets in the APAC region with several potential opportunities coming up in segments like Medical, Aerospace, Additive Manufacturing, EV, where ZEISS can provide end to end solutions for each segment.

We are investing heavily in equipping our teams, expanding our country wide presence directly and through our sales channels to be able to take up challenges of the future. The government PLI schemes are only helping in focusing more on our expansion plans.
